PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
WELCOME TO FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH PRESCHOOL! Our goal is to offer a warm, accepting, Christian atmosphere in which a child can grow intellectually, physically emotionally, socially and spiritually, using curriculum that includes age appropriate experiences in each of these areas all correlated to developing a happy, well adjusted child.
We seek to instill and reinforce Christian values that will enrich a child's life and provide a strong foundation for their future.
Our Preschool program begins at 9:00 A.M. (For the convenience of parents, who need to bring their child earlier, there is available an "early drop-off" program.) The schedule of the Preschool is planned so that within the day, your child will learn through imaginative play, self-expression in groups, stories, and creative arts. Because this is a Church Preschool, children will also have the opportunity to hear Bible Stories, pray before snacks, and learn "Church Songs." Each month you will receive, in advance, a calendar that will tell you what colors, shapes, and letters we will be talking about during the month as well as any "special events" planned. There will be some field trips that will require parent's help. On a weekly basis, we have devotionals with our Associate Minister, Timothy Scoonover and Preschool Director, "Miss Jeanne". Music class with "Miss Susan" and "Miss Lynn" is a favorite event twice a week.
We appreciate the confidence you have shown in our program. We ask for your support of these programs and your prayers for the teachers as they work with your child during the coming year.
If at any time there are concerns you wish to express, please feel free to call my office to set up an appointment.
Jeanne Thompson

General Information
CLOTHING: Please let your child wear comfortable clothes. They will play, paint, and do creative (sometimes a little messy) activities. An old shirt of Daddy's makes an excellent paint smock so please bring one for us to keep on hand. Mark all outer clothing (coats, hats, sweaters, mittens, etc.) with the child's name. Send an extra change of clothing for your child (accidents and spills can occur). It also helps to have a sweater or light jacket that they can leave at school just in case the weather changes. If your child is still in diapers or pull-ups, please bring these along with "baby wipes" clearly marked with your child's name.
SNACKS: Light, nutritious snacks will be served each day. If your child is on a special diet or has food allergies, please alert your child's teacher.
SHARING: PLEASE DISCOURAGE YOUR CHILD FROM BRINGING PERSONAL TOYS TO CLASS. They are difficult to share and can quickly create situations or arguments. Nature items and other current "theme" objects are welcomed. Parents may help their child select something of interest to share. For the two-year-old class, please feel free to bring "comfort" items (blankets, etc.) if they are necessary. This will be a year to give up some of these security things, and we will be glad to work with you on these goals.
ILLNESS: Please do not bring your child to school if they show signs of illness (fever, "cloudy" running nose, cough, etc.) We will not hesitate to ask you to take your child home if we feel that he/she may be contagious. If your child becomes ill, or if your child has a minor accident, we will call you to alert you to the problem and seek your advice. Meanwhile we will care for them and make them as comfortable as possible.
PARTIES & BIRTHDAYS: We enjoy special parties throughout the school year. Parents will be asked to volunteer to lend a helping hand for these special occasions. Also, if you would like to celebrate your child's birthday by bringing something special for the class to share, please notify your child's teacher several days in advance if possible.
MESSAGES/TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS: Pick-up arrangements should be made when the child arrives. Verbal messages will not be accepted from the child. Please send a written note pinned to your child's clothes with any important messages for the day or transportation changes. DO NOT PUT THE MESSAGES IN THEIR BOOK BAG.WE MAY NOT FIND THE NOTE.
There are no phone lines in the classrooms and teachers are not easily reached during pickup time, therefore we ask that phone messages concerning changes in pickup arrangements be limited to only when absolutely necessary. Of course, we encourage you to call us when you have information or concerns that affect the care of your child.
